Food system analysis often treats “crops” as a homogeneous category, or focuses narrowly on the handful of staples (wheat, rice, maize, soy) that dominate global trade. The EDIBLE project takes a different starting point: the full diversity of what is actually grown and eaten, from globally traded commodities to regional staples that barely appear in FAO statistics.
This dashboard was built to make that diversity legible. It lets you filter and compare edible crops by production region, nutritional profile, production volume, and category (cereals, pulses, fruits, vegetables, oilseeds, etc.). The aim is to support research and policy conversations that go beyond the headline commodities — particularly in contexts where biodiversity in food production matters for resilience and for understanding local food system sustainability.
How to read it
Use the category and region filters to narrow the crop set. The comparison view puts selected crops side by side on nutritional and production indicators. The map view shows which crops are produced where, at what scale.
