When Mexico declared a health emergency in March 2020, movement across the country changed — but not uniformly. Some states saw sharp drops in mobility from the first week. Others barely shifted. The variation tracked differences in local economic structure (where working from home was possible versus where it was not), local government messaging, and the pace at which the virus reached different regions.

This dashboard tracks those changes over time by state, using aggregated mobility indicators relative to a pre-pandemic baseline. The patterns in the data connect to larger questions about which populations were able to reduce their exposure and which were not — a question directly relevant to understanding how public health measures interact with labour vulnerability and informality.

How to read it

Values are percentage changes from the baseline period (January–February 2020). Negative values indicate reduced mobility; positive values indicate above-baseline movement. Use the state filter and time slider to isolate specific periods and regions.
